The Six Relations and the Six Spirits
The Six Relations take the palace element as "me" and compare it with the element of each line's branch:
- Siblings
- Same element. Siblings, friends, colleagues, rivals; also loss of money and obstruction.
- Offspring
- What I produce. Children, juniors, pets, medicine, blessings and joy; the reliever of worry.
- Wealth
- What I control. Money, goods and income; for a man asking about love, the woman.
- Officer
- What controls me. Work, position, bosses, authorities and lawsuits; for a woman asking about love, the man; also worry and illness.
- Parents
- What produces me. Parents and elders, documents, contracts, exams, houses, vehicles and news.
If a relation does not appear in the hexagram, it is found in the pure hexagram of the same palace, "hidden" beneath the line in the same position.

- Flying Serpent
- False alarms, the uncanny, unease.
- White Tiger
- Force, injury, mourning.
- Black Tortoise
- Secrets, theft and loss, hidden affairs.
