Liu Yao Guide
Liu Yao, also called Na Jia divination or the Fire Pearl method, builds on the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching and adds stems, branches and the five elements. Each line is assigned an earthly branch (Na Jia), and the palace a hexagram belongs to sets the Six Relations, so that abstract images map onto concrete people and matters, while the month and day of the reading show what is strong or weak.
Steps
- Cast: hold a specific question in mind and toss three coins six times, building the lines from the bottom up.
- Find the hexagrams: old yang (9) and old yin (6) are moving lines; flipping them gives the changed hexagram.
- Dress the hexagram: find its palace and its Self and Other lines, then add Na Jia, the Six Relations and the Six Spirits.
- Choose the use god: pick the relation that stands for what you asked about.
- Judge its strength: check the use god against the month and day, voidness and month breaks, and how it changes if it moves.
